If I Cleaned Everything

The People’s Building

The play opens on a sparsely decorated living room in Dan’s inherited McMansion. Dressed in a black suit and sparring with some unknown demons, Dan attempts to record a new song he’s been working on to no avail. To release some of the pressure of his constant musical mistakes, he launches into a howling, bleating, bleeding rock song. As he attempts to unburden himself through song, Nancy enters the scene and re-enters Dan’s life, totally unsurprised to find him having a fit, a common occurrence during their time as a couple. From then on, the night is full of familiar moments for the two: laughter, harmonic musical convergence, and many, many liquor-fueled acrid arguments.
